| Taylor County Sheriff's Office: Merkel woman arrested for animal cruelty |

09/01 11:20 AM – TCSO officer arrested a Merkel woman at the old courthouse, on 5 warrants for Class ‘A’ Misdemeanor Cruelty To Livestock. The charges stemmed from a August 27th seizure of seven horses on the woman’s property, south of Merkel. Beverly Butman, 64, was arrested while attending a hearing regarding the animals. She is currently being held in the Taylor County Jail on bonds totaling $5,000.

Here are a few examples of the calls for the last 24 hours. Officer Brannon responded to a vehicle accident in the 100 block of Sayles. Officer Brannon contacted one of the drivers, who was a 44-year-old male. The subject was intoxicated and was arrested for third-degree felony Driving While Intoxicated With an Accident. The subject had four prior convictions for DWI. |

| Novice eyes classes for 3-year-olds |

The administration at Novice ISD is considering starting a preschool program for 3-year-olds. Superintendent Dale Freeman said a few parents have requested the school district start such a program, which he said would be similar to their pre-kindergarten program for 4-year-olds. |
